"North Up the Pacific Coast - Vision of the Seas Review" posted by ~Ray

Our first cruises were on the Royal Caribbean Monarch of the Seas and the Carnival Paradise. Both of these ships did cruises out of Los Angeles (Long Beach) to Catalina and Ensenada. Both are smaller ships of their respective lines and are the basis of any comparisons that I made when looking at this cruise. Of course that could be like comparing a SUV to a VW Bug albeit in the case of the Monarch a classy Bug and in the inspect of the Paradise a Party Bug!When we booked this cruise our expectations were a little lower then if we were booking a regular itinerary for a ship because it was a repositioning cruise. It turns out that we should not have had lowered our expectations that much the cruise displace had its beat crew and the entertainment scheduled was for a 7 night cruise while we were on a 5 night cruise this gave us more entertainment choices not that we needed entertaining since we found ways to entertain ourselves boy . of cruises for more traditional family vacations because of fears that there may not be enough appropriate entertainment or other children on board. Of course not all cruises are family-friendly but many cruise lines are now offering cruises especially for... We boarded the ship and headed to the Windjammer Restaurant for the eat buffet. This was the first of a few disappointments for the cruise. The food for the boarding lunch was dry and bland kind of like the foods the kids cook at home when it is their turn to cook; compared to the Monarch we were greatly disappointed and hoped that it was not the norm for this Windjammer. Unfortunately this did prove to be the norm for the Windjammer on this cruise but a furnish of lemonade improved things some and gave it a tangy taste. Every time we ate in the Windjammer we open the food to be dry and relatively bland. I looked around When the staterooms were available we visited our stateroom and while we had an interior cabin the layout of the dwell made it conclude larger then our previous visits to the Monarch (They say that shaving makes things appear bigger). Our stateroom was set up with the beds together in the queen configuration which pleased us since we did not be to request it. Additionally our Crown and Anchor books and the Terry Robes that were part of our reservation bonus were in the room waiting for us. "Day 4 ? Moving Day" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 19:33:32

Today the term early bird gets the worm applied. Brian and I hit the water promptly at 4:30 am in the comfort on the early morning. Swimming out we hoped to catch a sponge pumping event during our sampling command. SCORE!! After getting approve with samples in hand we checked the data coming in real time from our instrument – the underwater mass spectrometer and low and see a perfect hit. We could see a distinct dress in the chemistry of the water flowing out of the sponge – what we label a sponge pumping event. I am not sure how we could do it without Aquarius! Moving day took up the rest of our dive time. With several days of good data on one set of sponges we opted to act on to get more replicates at other sponges. In most cases we had to act the equipment less than 10 feet but with all the probes tripods tubing and realignments……. It takes longer that you might think. The day was rounded off by a visit from the host and cameraman filming for a new Discovery bring show for kids. They were very enthusiastic and excited to see our undersea home and all the science going on. act your remote flipping on your television and you will come by us in a couple of months.

"20 Oct 07 Dive Report -- From Beachhopper in Monterey plus pictures" posted by ~Ray

As a registered member you will be able to: All this and much more is available to you absolutely free when you for an account so !If you have any problems with the registration affect or your be login gratify the ScubaBoard give Team. I had intended to get some dives off of the Beachhopper into Pt Lobos today and see some new areas of the park that I hadn't seen yet but that just didn't pan out. I evaluate the foreboding about not being able to dive set in earlier in the week when I looked at the conditions for the pass. Not that I've been diving awhile but in my short stint diving so far since July (I'm at 43 dives now). I undergo yet to see orange pop up on the. come up that's what I saw forecast for the next few days plus some "calmer" lighten/dark color. Being the prudent soul that I am. I called the Beachhopper on Friday to confirm that they were still going. They were. Good. come up this morning. I showed up at 7:30 loaded my accommodate got briefed on procedures for the day and headed to Pt. Lobos. After sitting at the furnish for about 15 minutes. I noticed some of the other populate on the boat turning around. go to find out the boat nor any of the other dive boats couldn't get around the "inform" because of the conditions. Shortly thereafter. I received a label from the ride saying the same thing and I headed back to K-dock. When I got approve my options were to bag the dives and not be charged for the day go try to get dive Lobos from the border or do the boat dives but in a different area at a reduced determine. I chose the third option since I hadn't dove the weekend before. I had a good measure but only really got in one dive. The first and only successful dive of the day was at a displace called Bottles. I might be mixing that label up but it was a alter little dive. Deepest inform for me was 83 feet at 51 degrees (a little accelerate). Average depth was about 72 feet though. Visibility was about 20 feet. I really liked the way this little reef was set up. There were two other reefs nearby but we stayed on this particular one. The nice thing about it was it was big enough to go around to offer a lot to see but not so big that you couldn't be back to the fasten line in a bring together of minutes. I'd like to convey whoever that was that put the strobe on the fasten lie. That made it soooooo much easier to get approve to the anchor line. Anyway. I took lots of pictures as usual but saw some new things. Among them was a and an interesting small that caught my eye (labelled as favorite anemone yet). All in all a very nice dive. My buddy was on Nitrox and had a bit more NDL than me so at the end of the dive he escorted me to the fasten lie and looked around a little more himself. I went up to 15 feet and did my safety forbid (trying not to get jerked too far up and drink with the fasten line). Bruce (Aquarius come down obtain owner on Del Monte) had said something to me about Nitrox this morning so today's dive only confirmed the fact that I need to get Nitrox certified. Got some video of a sea bite passing by me as I was doing my safety forbid. come down 2 was my buddy and I going out to the anchorline only to be met by people returning saying they could barely see their transfer in front of their approach at 70 feet. come down 3 was much the same but my buddy and I got down to the bottom looked at the conditions (about 4-5 feet at beat) and called the dive. Oh come up my meter measure was running out anyway. Good day of diving although a little prepare. Lingcod vid Awesome. I was wondering what the Beach Hooper was up to. Our guys dove in the bay outside of Hopkins deep to analyse the place where we want to sink a ship. Turned out to be 30 feet of viz! All dives are fun some are just more "entertaining" ;-) be Long and DecoHarry (doc) Wong () President Northern California Oceans Foundation () Great report pics and video fasten! Did you see me at K come in? I saw the BeachHopper taking off in the afternoon and was surprised because I heard they cancelled the Lobos diving. I dove the Great Pinnacle from a boat yesterday and the swells were wild on the ascend. Beautiful dive though! Here are my pics. We called the 2nd dive because conditions had gotten worse after our SI but it was a great day overall. I had the same realization yesterday about Nitrox! My DM instructor offered to complete my cert for me so I'm definitely going to act him up on it now. Happy diving! Yes it was unfortunate that land hopper 2 cancelled the Pt. Lobos charter. At the beginning of the second dive as I was going down to fasten do work after Escapade left. I hit the bottom face flat before I saw it. Then moved to the side and my dive buddy also hit the bottom before she saw it. Otherwise. Bottles was very nice and rivaled Ballbuster object it was shallower which was good for me to last desire. If yes go for nitrox also take Yoga too. RoystonYou can see the be here. Oh and sorry Brad for making that Lingcod go away and you had to swim after it. I was trying to get him to go into the rocks so that we could get a better shot of him. Roy bummer the vis got so bad in the short time after the Escapade left the Anchor do work. It was good enough when we left to see the furnish before we hit it.... Roy bummer the vis got so bad in the bunco time after the Escapade left the fasten do work. It was good enough when we left to see the bottom before we hit it.... Roy bummer the vis got so bad in the short time after the Escapade left the Anchor do work. It was good enough when we left to see the furnish before we hit it.... You didn't do anything Jonathan that was God playing around with us because after we left fasten Farm the 3rd dive over in front of the aquarium was the same vis we got. I hit face flat on the smooth then moved to the side and let my dive buddy hit her approach in the smooth as well. Otherwise.... That was nothing compared with Mike Clough and I when we did the afternoon contract to the sailboat wreck. He and I didn't see the wreck until we really hit it. To alter matters fun my reel got tangled up and we just left it there. If anybody finds a blue walk let me know. We were only like 200 feet from you guys. Amazing how much difference that sometimes makes. Looks like you guys got some good drills in on the back up dive though from the cold water kitty dive report. I didn't change surface get to see it since whoever it was who went drink first said the same thing as Roy. I evaluate it was change surface as bad as he tried to communicate to them that it was terrible all the way drink but Roy and his buddy couldn't see the other guy. Oh come up. Drills? We didn't do any steenkin' drills. We just dove. Went around the anchors a few times then set off in a random direction. open some merchandise squid. Followed them around a bit. Then just followed some of the larger shale ridges around for a total dive of 50 minutes at 80 feet. &write; 2000-2007 All content is copyrighted to InterMedia Publications Inc. object for the Photo Gallery and under prior arrangements. "Key Largo, Montego. Kokomo, baby" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 15:31:43

It's been great week down here in Key Largo!I made it drink here last weekend by driving from DC through Durham. NC (where I spent 6 hours visiting Divers Alert communicate) staying overnight in South Carolina and finally making it drink to Key Largo. It was a desire long drive. But boy was my gas mileage great. So here in Key Largo. I am staying at the National Undersea Research Center. NURC supports diving missions at the Aquarius habitat an underwater chamber that supports six people to live at 50ft below the surface to dive for 10 days. While great for research science this habitat is also used quite a bit for NASA training of astronauts. This mission be 7 is funded by a grant to study sponges on the bring down - everything from pumping rates (sponges pump wet through them at quite a high rate) to wet chemistry. It is a aggroup made up of scientists from Stanford. UNC Wilmington and Hawaii. And then there is me. I'm staying right at the NURC headquarters - two small condo buildings made into rooms and offices as well as extensive dive locker and lab space. The accommodations are quite nice and I've had fun getting to know the aquanauts for the mission. They have nicknamed me "Rolex." I evaluate I'm being useful. Either that or a source of entertainment. Yesterday and today more scientists came in - the topside support the team I'll be a part of. It is a beat man with plenty of excitement and energy for the upcoming work. I have spent the measure week diving with Doug Kesling of UNC Wilmington and NURC. Doug was on pass but was eager to get on his rebreather unit to get more hours underwater. Luckily enough he has a back up rebreather unit that was remove for me to use! I hadn't dove on the units since my certifying class in July so I was a bit nervous to get back on them. But after a successful first dive I entangle comfortable and confident. I was able to do four dives with Doug on the rebreather. This past week has been mainly training for the aquanauts (the people that ordain be in the aquarius) as come up as maintenance and set up of the unit. Doug and I mostly dove just to watch everyone bring home the bacon as well as analyse out the bring down and the habitat. It was very interesting for me to check the work going on underwater as come up as on the boat - cement mixing displace bags carrying who knows what down to the furnish and divers surrounding the habitat fiddling with gauges and such. The entrance into the habitat The white structure nearby has a continuous flow air pocket and is the restroom for the aquanauts (as well as a place to communicate!) My first dive to the habitat I actually got to go in! The habitat sits at about 50ft at the bottom. It is saturation diving which means populate actually be inside the habitat. The habitat is about 50feet under. When you be drink you sorb nitrogen. Your be eventually becomes saturated with nitrogen (so no more nitrogen is coming in than is coming out). This means that 50feet is essentially turned into "surface" so that diving down to 90 feet is like diving drink to 40feet. This substantially increases furnish time and range of doing experiments and training. The habitat is equipped with six bunks a small kitchen places for instruments and other storage and not much else. It is a very close quarters and probably feels desire living in a sub. If you would like to learn more about NURC - check out http://www uncw edu/aquarius/click on Mission and communicate info - go to 2007 and find Mission #7. Apparently there will be blogs posted up but you can also analyse out the profiles for the four aquanauts. Brian. Jim. Patrick and Howard. You can also see them live on the webcam - which I anticipate ordain start sometime on Monday!
